A homeowner in Oswego contacted Service Tech Heating & Air Conditioning after noticing their air conditioning system was struggling to keep the home cool during warmer afternoon temperatures. The system was running continuously, airflow was weak, and the outdoor condenser unit was making unusual humming noises before shutting down intermittently. Our NATE-certified technician arrived promptly to perform a complete AC diagnostic inspection and identify the source of the problem.
After testing the system components, we discovered a failing capacitor that was preventing the condenser fan motor and compressor from operating properly. The worn capacitor was safely removed and replaced with a properly matched replacement part to restore reliable startup and performance. During system testing, we also found the refrigerant charge was slightly low, which was contributing to reduced cooling efficiency and longer run times. To correct the issue, we added 1 pound of R-22 refrigerant and checked operating pressures to ensure the system was cooling properly.
Once repairs were completed, the air conditioning system returned to normal operation with improved airflow, faster cooling cycles, and more consistent indoor comfort. We also took time to educate the homeowner on routine maintenance and signs to watch for that may indicate future AC issues.
